Fret not, folks. Hillary's on it!

Yesterday Hillary Clinton remarked that the Obama administration would lift the remittance and travel restrictions for Cuban-Americans so that the struggling castro regime can get back up on its financial feet by receiving millions in ransom for families held hostage on the island prison. Travel agents here in Miami and elsewhere are ecstatic, of course, as customers will now be able to visit the island of sick and ailing grandmothers. fidel's corpse must be dancing a jig.

But wait, folks. Hillary is no softie. She's not just going to allow the castro regime to rake in those millions in ransom monies without something in return.

In the same "speech", the soon to be Secretary of State made it crystal clear that she has the testicular fortitude to take on the monarchical dictatorship. Kankles stated in no uncertain terms that she "wants" the regime to release political prisoners and prisoners of conscience.

Boy, Im sure glad Hillary put her foot down and Im absolutely positively sure that the castro regime got right on it. Or, they meant to get right on it but couldnt find the keys to all the cells.

I expect worst things to happen. The embargo will eventually be repealed. The MSM is relentless and when they smell blood [lifting of travel restrictions and family remittances is the first gaping wound], they will eventually start agitating for a lifting of the embargo [whatever is left of it] and editorializing about how Obama owes nothing to the Cuban Americans, etc..

Raul will get everything that he wanted and more including a possible presidential visit. That should me a dilly! Just imagine the MSM's spasms of orgasmic ecstasy as Barack and Michelle tour Cuba which they will tout as an African nation, former victim of colonialism, slavery, etc... ad nauseam.

Val,

I agree with Rayarena's comment, plus I must say that don't trust any of the the Clintons as far as I can piss, period.

I still remember what the Clintons did to us the Cuban-American community during the Elian fiasco. I'll never forget or forgive them for their actions during that time.

Unfortunately, US policy on Cuba has very little to do with what's best for Cuba. That's definitely not the overriding priority. It never has been, and it certainly won't be now. Cubans may not be able to do it all themselves, but they'd damn better do as much as they possibly or humanly can, because depending on the kindness of strangers is never going to pan out. It sure as hell hasn't for the last half century.

Asombra,

The majority of the people in Cuba have taken the easy way out and gotten used to living off the remittances from their relatives outside the country and many prostituting themselves in the streets.

It pains me to say this but they have what they deserve as they should have stood up to the tyranny a long time ago instead of becoming leaches to their relatives in exile and loosing their moral values.

They rather be eaten by sharks in the FL straits that stand up publicy against the regime.

A country having people with that kind of moral fiber does not give you much to hope for.

I sincerely hope to be wrong but so far the evidence to support my claim is overwhelming.

I was referring to all Cubans, in and out of Cuba. Everyone cannot do the same thing/s, but everyone can do something, given his or her situation and circumstances. And by doing something, I'm not talking about things like sending yet another letter to someone who's bound and determined not to see or hear anything that's inconvenient or "problematic." In other words, we need to focus on what has a reasonable chance of accomplishing something useful. Unfortunately, sometimes doing something useful involves some measure of sacrifice, self-discipline or self-denial, and that's a big part of the problem.

I am not a Cuban, but I think it is unkind to say the least to exhort Cubans in Cuba to stand up and fight. That reminds me of those who blamed the Jews for going so meekly into the ovens.
If you live in a closed tyranny and are watched all of the time, have no weapons or resources and not too much food, there is small room or ability for revolt.

Asombra,

First, the people in Cuba must rise up on a great scale and demand their freedom from the tyranny.

The moment that begins to happen, we the exiles can help by pressuring our respective governments to help the cause of a free Cuba.

I understand that far more could have been done from the outside for the last 50 years to hasten the regime's downfall but you know, the past is the past, done with and we must live with it.

Unfortunately the people in Cuba have been Communist slaves for the last 50 years and have shown very little desire (other than a few harassed dissidents) to break their chains of slavery to the outside world.

It the people in Cuba would put their fears aside and for once stand up to the tyranny, then the pressure would mount on the international community to do something about it and stop being apologists for the Castro regime.

Unfortunately it seems to me that the Cuban people want to be Communist slaves for the next 50 years as there is no more excuse for their cowardly behavior towards the tyranny.

I sincerely and honest to God hope that I'm wrong and something happens in the near future.

Honey,

Trust me, I'm Cuban and even thought I left a long time ago, I witnessed enough there.

The Cuban people are way overdue for a stand-up against the tyranny as they no longer have a excuse to be afraid of the regime.

The countries in the Iron Curtain took enough of the Communism system until one day they got finally fed-up with it and overthrew it.

The time has come for the Cuban people to follow suit.

It pains me to say this but maybe the people in Cuba don't deserve to be free as they have become a bunch of cowards.

If they would have the cojones the size of the ones so far displayed by Dr. Oscas Elias Biscet and Joani Sanchez the tyranny would be in deep shit by now.
