Unapologetically Christian and Conservative
I came across this new blog, PInk Elephant Pundit, by Tabitha Hale who touts herself as "Unapologetically Christian and Conservative." She has some good thoughts on politics and she's funny, too. In one of her posts she says she judges people based on their opinion of Nancy Pelosi- how can you not appreciate that?
But what got my attention was her post entitled "Dear President Obama." It's a letter directed to President HopeandChange and she sums up my feelings really well. It still amazes me that so many people on the right have stated that they will respect our new president and wish him well. I recall nothing of the sort when President Bush took office. In fact, I recall an outcry in the exact opposite direction. Regardless, give Tabitha's blog a look and send her some encouragement. We need some more people like her.
"Dear President Obama,First of all let me congratulate you. You are about to take on the world’s biggest job at a very difficult time. By this time next week, you will be my President. I disagree with you on many things. Okay, if we’re being honest, I’d be hard pressed to find something that I DID agree with you on. However, you are my president, and the title alone commands a level of respect that we have not seen for the office in a while.
I know that as Americans we all value similar things. I don’t think any one of us - whether conservative, liberal, democrat or republican - would say that we don’t want things to be better for our children. We all want more jobs and a thriving economy, we all value opportunity and prosperity. We value our freedom and safety. The differences lie in how we go about obtaining those goals.
I believe that it is impossible to have “freedom” when the government is over-involved. The very presence of government in many situations denotes quite the opposite of freedom. When the government gets its hands on my health care, housing, money, education, mortagage, church, marriage, etc what is left? Where is the freedom?

Claudia, you're so right about those folks who say we should play 'nice' with the new administration. They started their viciousness as soon as Bush was declared the winner in NOV 2000 and picked up the tempo after 9/11. Thomas Sowell said it perfectly in a commentary he wrote today on Town Hall.com. When talking about the mistakes of the Bush Administration, he said that "their worst political mistakes were the kinds of mistakes that decent people often make when dealing with indecent people, both domestically and internationally." How true, 'indecent people' perfectly describes what the DEMs and their fellow-travellers have been for eight years - eight very critical, delicate years in the life of this nation. Bush tried to play nice, and all they could do was spit in his face on every issue he tried to address. The DEMs and Obama haven't earned decency.

Mambi-
It's the old shoe on the other foot. "W stole the election." Dems took to the streets and threatened to leave. Acorn was found to have fraudulent registrations that favored Obama, Obama had connections to Acorn, but yet we saw none of the uprising that was showcased in 2000. That's because we know how to conduct ourselves. We don't stop Dem buses from reaching the DNC or throw bleach at the delegates. We out class them every time, and so does Tabitha in her post.
